Issue 47: The welcome email that gets replies

Why one question in your welcome email can do more for deliverability and ideas than any growth tactic.

This week is about the most-opened email you will ever send: your welcome email.

One question

End your welcome email with a single, genuine question, such as "What do you hope to get from this newsletter?" Replies do two things. They tell you what readers want, and they signal to mailbox providers that your email is wanted, which helps future issues reach the inbox.

What we changed

Our own welcome email used to list every social account we have. We replaced the list with three links: our best issue, our most-used resource, and the about page. It is shorter and, more importantly, easier to act on.

Reader note

Thank you to everyone who replied to last week's question. The most common answer was "help with pricing", so that is coming up in a few weeks.
