Archive clean-up checklist

A twice-yearly pass through your back catalogue that keeps old issues useful and findable.

Archive clean-up checklist

Your archive is how new readers decide whether to subscribe. Twice a year, spend an hour making it work for them.

Titles and labels

  1. Rename vague issue titles so they say what is inside.
  2. Check that free, members-only and paid labels are correct.
  3. Make sure every issue has a short excerpt.
  1. Run a broken-link check on your ten most-visited issues.
  2. Point old links at newer, better resources where you have them.

Promote the best

  1. Pick five issues that still hold up and turn them into library resources, or link them from your welcome email.
  2. Add a "start here" section to your homepage or about page.

Retire the rest

  1. Unpublish anything that is wrong or embarrassing, rather than leaving it to be found.
  2. Note recurring topics. They may be ready to become a guide.
