Worked example: estimating free-to-paid upgrades
A fictional newsletter works out how many paying readers it can realistically plan for.
This example follows The Commuter Cook, an invented weekly recipe newsletter, as its editor estimates paid upgrades before launching a paid tier. Every figure is illustrative.
The inputs
- 8,000 free subscribers.
- About 4,000 read regularly (opened at least one of the last four issues).
